Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Announces Plans to Relocate Site of New 250-Bed Hospital

Eight Points site selection to generate positive economic impact for the Poplar Bluff community

POPLAR BLUFF, MO – Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center today announced their plans to relocate the future home of its new 250-bed, state-of-the-art hospital, which was approved by the Missouri Health Facilities Review Committee in May. Conveniently located in the Eight Points development district, the new site location selected by hospital officials is positioned on the south side of Oak Grove Road.

Poplar Bluff Regional will go before the Missouri Health Facilities Review Committee on July 11 to seek approval for the new location site.

“Our unwavering goals in building a new hospital for Poplar Bluff have been to build a state-of-the- art hospital that will provide the best healthcare possible to meet the growing needs of this community, and to be a good corporate citizen,” says Greg Carda, chief executive officer of Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. “This decision meets both of those goals.”

The new building site in the Eight Points development district will result in a broader economic impact with the additional jobs and tax revenues associated with the retail development and new infrastructure improvements. In coopertation with the Missouri Department of Transportation, over $20 million in infrastructure improvements will be realized and result in the widening of Oak Grove Road, the creation of an new interchange at Bypass 67 and a new intersection at Business 67 and Oak Grove Road. Most importantly, this approved agreement with MoDOT will provide improved safety in transportation.

“Eight Points offers a great opportunity for this community, and the commitment by PBRMC helps to jump-start the development and attract retail interests” says Steve Halter, Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce President. “From a business perspective it’s the best thing that could happen for the community.”

According to K2 Commercial Group, Eight Points is designed to attract a combination of medical, professional, retail and entertainment business. The development project is expected to create over 1,400 new jobs as well as additional property and sales tax revenue to the city, county and school district.

“The vision for Eight Points – to build an extraordinary community development that when completed will transform Poplar Bluff and solidify its position as the economical and social hub of the entire region – has never wavered,” says Ryan Kiser, partner of K2 Commercial Group. “Now that PBRMC has decided to commit to Eight Points, we have the medical anchor we have been seeking and this in turn will accelerate the entire development.”

The previous building site for the $170 million hospital project, one of the single largest corporate investments in Poplar Bluff’s history, was located on PP Highway. According to Carda, a family cemetery located on the initial building site and the desire to protect its heritage played a factor in their decision to relocate the site for the new hospital.

“We’re confident this is the right decision for the hospital and for the community because it allows us to improve the healthcare delivery system in Poplar Bluff, while also spurring a larger pattern of economic growth in the region,” says Carda. “We appreciate the help and swift action of both Poplar Bluff elected officials and K2 site developers in creating this opportunity for the community.”

The new 425,000 square foot hospital will more than double the size of PBRMC’s current north campus and will feature:

  • Private rooms with space for family and friends to stay at the patient’s bedside.
  • Important new health services such as neurosurgery.
  • Expansion of health services such as:
    • Emergency room
    • Cardiac care
  • Enhanced technology and upgraded medical equipment.
  • Room for growth as we grow with Poplar Bluff and the region.
  • Easier accessibility for emergency vehicles, for patients and their families.
  • Improved parking.
